Gladbach dismiss Polanski after three defeats and 5-0 rout

Eugen Polanski's homecoming as Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach lasted three league games.

The club parted with him on Sunday morning, making him the first coaching departure of the Bundesliga season, Germany's top flight. The decision followed a 5-0 defeat away to SC Freiburg on Saturday, according to The Guardian.

It ended 5-0. Yannik Engelhardt scored twice for Freiburg, with defender Matthias Ginter setting up two goals. Gladbach captain Tim Kleindienst was sent off for a second yellow card as the afternoon unravelled.

It was a third straight league defeat to open the season. Before Freiburg, Gladbach lost at home to Elversberg after leading 3-1, conceding the winner in stoppage time.

The short tenure carries a sense of history repeating. Gladbach also parted ways with Gerardo Seoane three games into last season. Polanski knew the club well, having made his professional debut for Gladbach in 2004 and then spent three years in charge of the under-23 side before stepping up to the first team.

There is change higher up too. Roland Virkus stepped down as sporting director last September but stayed on working in the scouting department. Assistant coach Tobias Trulsen was also dismissed alongside Polanski, according to Associated Press.

For fans, this means another fresh start before autumn has even arrived. Three games is almost no time. But three defeats, a late collapse and then a heavy away loss left the board with little room to wait.
