Gabrielle Union hunts vampires in first look at Casket Girls
Gabrielle Union is a New Orleans detective hunting vampires beneath a centuries-old church in supernatural horror-thriller Casket Girls. Deadline published an exclusive first image of Union in character on 14 September 2026.
Union stars as Detective Shay Williams. Mike Colter co-stars opposite her as Galpin, Deadline reported. The pairing puts two investigators at the centre of the story.
Shay and Galpin are called in after a child reports a supernatural encounter. Their inquiry accidentally frees the legendary Casket Girls from under the church, Deadline reported. What follows centres on trapped survivors trying to outwit bloodthirsty vampires before they are picked off one by one.
The title draws on a real Louisiana legend. The historical Casket Girls arrived carrying their belongings in small chests, known as caskets, according to earlier reporting by Deadline. The film turns that folk story into a vampire threat.
On the business side, Aura Entertainment has acquired the U.S. rights, meaning it controls cinema and home release in the United States. Capture is handling international sales at the TIFF market, the section of the Toronto International Film Festival organised around selling distribution rights territory by territory, Deadline reported. Screen Daily reported on 10 September 2026 that the U.S. deal was secured ahead of the TIFF sales launch, in a story by Jeremy Kay.
The film is directed by Justin G. Dyck and produced by QC Entertainment, the company behind Get Out. Sean McKittrick and Raymond Mansfield produce for QC, with Edward H. Hamm Jr., Jameson Parker and Union as executive producers. Parker joined QC as President of Production in August 2026, according to Deadline.
The wider cast includes Raúl Castillo, Matt Frewer and Thomas Lennon. Lennon originated the script with Robert Ben Garant, with revisions by Keith Cooper and Dyck. The project has been in development since September 2024, when Deadline first reported that Union would produce and star in the horror film for QC.
For fans, this means the first concrete view of the tone and setting. A locked church, a New Orleans legend and two detectives give the sales team clear elements to present to buyers.
