Adam Conover Sets YouTube Premiere for Big Divorce Energy
Adam Conover will release his second stand-up special on YouTube next month.
Big Divorce Energy, his sophomore hour — meaning his second full-length show — will premiere on Friday, October 23. It was filmed at the Den Theatre in Chicago, according to Deadline. The date was first reported on September 14. That leaves just over five weeks until release night.
A YouTube premiere is simple. The special will play on the free video platform. Anyone with an internet connection can press play, with no streaming subscription required.
That is a different route from his first special. His debut, Unmedicated, was released on Dropout in 2024. Dropout is a subscription service built around comedy series, improv and live-style shows.
Conover is best known to television viewers as the creator and star of Adam Ruins Everything. The truTV series, meaning a show made for the American cable channel truTV, ran for three seasons. Three seasons means three separate batches of episodes ordered over several years. In each episode Conover took a familiar subject and pulled it apart with jokes, experts and footnotes.
He then brought that explainer style to Netflix. The G Word with Adam Conover was made with Higher Ground Productions, the production company founded by former US President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. A production company is the business that develops and makes a show. The series looked at how government works, from food to disease to money.
Alongside television, Conover hosts Factually!. It is an investigative comedy podcast, meaning an audio series released in episodes, covering politics, technology and culture. Guests often include journalists, scientists and fellow comedians.
The new special grew out of live dates. Comedians often build an hour on the road. They play clubs night after night. They tighten jokes before the cameras roll. Conover headlined four shows at the Spokane Comedy Club as part of his Big Divorce Energy tour, The Spokesman-Review reported in October last year. His website had earlier advertised a taping, meaning a filmed performance, for Saturday, April 18 in Chicago, setting up the Chicago filming, according to his official site.
