Valve prices Steam Frame at £889 as sign-ups open

Valve has put a £889 starting price on Steam Frame, its new virtual reality headset, and opened a short sign-up window for buyers.

Sign-ups opened on 14 September 2026. They close at 6pm BST, 10am Pacific Time, on 17 September 2026, according to Eurogamer. That is a tight deadline. Anyone who misses it will not be in the first draw.

There are two models. The 512GB version costs £889 / €1,049 / US$1,059, while the 1TB version costs £1,089 / €1,279 / US$1,299. Valve states that VAT, the sales tax added in the UK and EU, is included where applicable.

Valve has organised the sale as a lottery rather than first-come, first-served. After the sign-up deadline closes, it will run a one-time randomisation to set the order for reservations and a waitlist. Customers will get an email on 17 September 2026 telling them which list they made. Valve expects to send the first batch of purchase emails on 18 September 2026.

So what do you get? The box holds the headset with its battery attached, two controllers, a spacer that gives extra room for glasses, a charging cable and a dongle. The dongle plugs into a PC and helps stream, or beam, games wirelessly to the headset.

Steam Frame is a streaming-first, wireless headset. That means it is built to play games sent over a local connection rather than only running them on the headset itself. Valve says it can handle the whole Steam library, its vast PC games shop, with its included controllers, as listed on Steam. It runs on SteamOS, Valve's own operating system.

The launch follows the end of Valve's last headset. Valve Index was discontinued on 12 November 2026, with Steam Frame planned as its 2026 replacement, according to the Valve Developer Wiki. Valve has also published a hardware FAQ answering common questions on timing and setup.
