Netflix and Sega announce Crazy Taxi film and new Sonic series

Netflix and Sega will make three screen projects together, led by a comedy film based on the video game Crazy Taxi.

The companies announced the multi-title collaboration on 14 September 2026. The slate also includes a new animated Sonic the Hedgehog television series and a film adaptation of Stranger Than Heaven, Variety reported.

The cab is coming back. Crazy Taxi, in this case, means a feature-length comedy adapted from the game — a screen version built around its characters and premise. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand are set to write the script, according to details carried by Eurogamer.

Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara are attached as producers on the film. Moritz is a long-running franchise producer. Ascher and Nakahara both have close ties to Sega’s screen work.

The Sonic project is a kids’ series. It is animated, made for television rather than cinemas, and aimed at a young audience. Toru Nakahara is also attached to that series, alongside animation director Carlos Stevens.

The third title is Stranger Than Heaven. Netflix and Sega plan a film adaptation, but have not yet outlined writers, cast or timing. The title was named as part of the same deal, with further details to follow.

Netflix published its own announcement of the collaboration on its official newsroom, Netflix. That notice describes the arrangement as covering the Crazy Taxi film adaptation, Sonic and Stranger Than Heaven.

For viewers, this means three familiar game names heading in different directions. One is a full comedy film. One is animation for children. One is still largely under wraps, with only the title and the film format confirmed so far.
