Emmys Honour Catherine O'Hara With Tribute From Former Co-Stars
Macaulay Culkin, Annie Murphy and Dan Levy took the stage at the 78th Emmy Awards to honour Catherine O'Hara, who died in January at age 71.
The tribute brought together co-stars from the two roles that introduced her to different generations. Culkin starred opposite O'Hara in the 1990 film Home Alone, where she played his mother in the first two films. Murphy and Levy starred with her in the sitcom Schitt's Creek, the comedy series where she played Moira Rose.
O'Hara's death was announced by her agency CAA. She died in her Los Angeles home following a brief illness, according to Variety.
The Canadian actress, as described by Al Jazeera, began her career on the Canadian sketch comedy series Second City Television. She earned an Emmy in 1982 for that show.
Her film work spanned four decades. It included After Hours and Beetlejuice, and a long run in Christopher Guest mockumentaries, scripted films shot in the style of documentaries, including Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration.
She won her second Emmy for Schitt's Creek. The part brought her renewed attention late in her career.
That late run also included television roles on HBO's The Last of Us and Apple TV's The Studio. In The Studio, she played a Hollywood executive opposite Seth Rogen's studio head.
After her death in January, members of the Levy family and the Schitt's Creek cast paid tribute to her, as reported by Deadline. The Emmy tribute reunited two of those co-stars with Culkin. It placed her film and television work in one remembrance.
