The Yellow Affair Boards Mexican Drama Morro Ahead of San Sebastian Premiere
The Yellow Affair has acquired world sales rights to Morro, the Mexican drama about a grieving veterinarian, ahead of its world premiere on Sept. 18.
The deal hands the Helsinki and London-based company the job of selling the film to distributors around the world, according to Variety. It lands just before the film steps into the spotlight. Morro will debut in the New Directors sidebar at the San Sebastian Film Festival, the section reserved for early films by emerging directors.
That premiere is set for the festival's opening stretch. The 2026 event is the 74th edition and runs from September 18 to 26, according to the San Sebastian Film Festival. Morro is one of 14 titles in this year's New Directors competition, a lineup unveiled in July by Screen Daily.
The film runs 95 minutes and is listed by the festival as a title from Mexico. It follows Mateo, a small-town veterinarian played by Gustavo Sánchez Parra. Since his son died, Mateo has lived in silent routine and guilt, the festival notes in its synopsis.
Morro is directed by Mexico City-born Rodrigo García Saiz. It is his second feature after Rain (Lluvia), which competed at the Malaga Film Festival in 2024. He shot the new film in 35mm in rural Mexico, a choice that gives the image its grainy, textured look.
The production brings together Mexico's Central Films, Calouma Films and The 42 Film, in co-production with EFD. The credited producers are García Saiz, Paola Cortés, Alberto Müffelmann, Julia Cherrier and Pablo Guerrero García Rojas. The film was made with the support of Eficine 189, the Mexican tax incentive that channels private investment into local shoots.
What makes this stand out for festival watchers is the extra race Morro has entered. The film is also competing for the 12th Cooperación Española Award at San Sebastian, according to the festival.
