Spanish producer David Matamoros has boarded Dog Legs, the film adaptation of the Chilean novel Patas de perro. The deal was pacted at the San Sebastian Festival, Variety reported on 29 September 2026.

The director is Chilean filmmaker Matías Rojas. His new film is based on a novel published in 1965 about Bobi, a 12-year-old boy born with dog's paws.

The project has now entered the final phase of its financing, meaning the producers are closing the last funding needed before cameras roll. The plan is to shoot in Valdivia, Chile, in the second half of next year.

Matamoros joins through his company Doce Entertainment. He completes a five-country producing team, alongside partners from Chile, France, Germany and Colombia.

Chile's A Simple Vista, led by Tomás Gerlach, started developing the film four years ago. Reality Films, the production arm of French distributor Epicentre Films, came on board at the 76th Berlinale. Germany's Klinker Films is a co-producer, meaning it shares costs and ownership, and it previously co-produced Rojas's A Place Called Dignity. Colombia's Federico Durán produces through his company El Sol Ermitaño.

Chilean actor Alfredo Castro is attached to star, meaning he is signed to lead the cast. Visual effects will be handled by French company MPC.

Matamoros is known for credits including The Platform and The Virgin of the Quarry. He was previously a producer at Zentropa Spain, the Spanish outfit founded by Lars von Trier.

Rojas has history at San Sebastian. He premiered his debut feature Root at the festival 13 years ago.

What makes this stand out is the shape of the team. Five companies across Europe and Latin America are backing one Spanish-language story, with a shoot rooted in southern Chile.
