Netflix sets 10 December for JonBenét Ramsey limited series with McCarthy and Owen
Netflix will release The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey on 10 December. The limited series, meaning it tells one self-contained story in a single season, stars Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen as Patsy and John Ramsey. The date was confirmed alongside a first-look photo of McCarthy and Owen in character, as reported by Variety.
The drama centres on the death of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey on Christmas night in 1996. She was reported missing from her family home. Her body was found in the basement of the house hours later.
Emily Mitchell plays JonBenét. The series focuses on the relationship between her parents, Patsy and John, according to Netflix. That relationship is the lens for the retelling, rather than a wider retracing of the investigation.
The wider ensemble is large. It includes Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, Shea Whigham, Owen Teague, Clifton Collins Jr., Angus Caldwell, Jaime Ray Newman, Rory Cochrane and Chris Bauer. Will Patton, Jeremy Bobb, John Billingsley, Josh Stamberg, Margo Martindale and Tzi Ma also appear in the series.

The project took a long path to the screen. It was first reported to be in development in March 2024 and finalised production in January 2025. It was formally approved, or greenlit in industry language, at Paramount+ before moving to Netflix in July.
Netflix has returned to this case before. It released the documentary series Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey in 2024. That series was the most-watched series on Netflix during the week of 25 November, with 13.4 million views in seven days, as reported by Variety.
