South Park becomes SOUTH AMERICA for Season 29 premiere
South Park will start Season 29 under a different name: SOUTH AMERICA.
Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced the temporary rebrand, which will stay in place through at least the season premiere, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It is a straight swap of the title card. The town, the characters and the slot stay the same.
The premiere episode is titled 'South American Biker Gangs'. It is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central, with the episode then available to stream on Paramount+ and on demand through pay-TV providers, meaning viewers can catch up with a streaming subscription or a cable login.
The new name is intended as a jab at President Trump, the New York Post reported on Sept. 8. Parker and Stone have a long record of topical cold opens and title gags. This one lands the night before the premiere.
The return follows a strong awards run. South Park won its fifth Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys, the separate ceremony that covers animation, music and craft categories ahead of the main Emmys telecast.
The programme was also named in the 2026 Television Academy Honors, the Academy's annual list recognising programmes with social impact, as its first-ever animated honouree. It was the first animated show shortlisted for best episodic comedy at the Producers Guild Awards.
For fans, this means a familiar routine with a new label. Tune in live on Comedy Central or stream the next day. The SOUTH AMERICA name holds at least for the opener.
The show added a second 2026 Emmy win for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for "Christian Woman" from "The Crap Out," with music and lyrics by Parker, according to the Television Academy. Parker, who has 18 Emmy nominations listed by the Academy, was also inducted into the 28th Television Academy Hall of Fame.
