South Park returns as 'South America' for Season 29 premiere
South Park came back with a new name on the door.
Season 29 began on Wednesday, Sept. 16, with the show also calling itself “South America.” The premiere episode, titled “South American Biker Gangs,” opened with a rewritten theme song and the lyric “I’m goin’ down to South America, have myself a time!”, as reported by Variety.
Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced the alternate title ahead of transmission. In a statement, they said they were changing the name of “South Park” to “South America” inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google. They also thanked parent company Paramount, which they described as “a Skydance Capitulation.”
The rename was presented as a jab at President Donald Trump’s moves to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America, New Mexico as New America, and the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. Trump also makes a cameo in the premiere.
The story itself stays close to home. Cartman, Stan, Kyle and Kenny develop a love of e-bikes. Their parents organise a rival biker gang in opposition to the kids on motorised bikes.
Kenny does not survive. His e-bike blows up.
The town then outlaws e-bikes and starts selling “South America Strong” T-shirts.
For viewers, this means a familiar slot with a small twist. The premiere aired on Comedy Central at 9 p.m. CT on Sept. 16, according to AL.com. Comedy Central lists the 30-minute opener, “South American Biker Gangs,” with a TV-MA rating, meaning it is rated for mature audiences only, on its TV schedule.
The episode became available on Paramount+ the day after its Comedy Central airing. Later episodes in Season 29 are set to air biweekly on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET, meaning every two weeks, according to Yahoo Entertainment.
The return followed an awards win. South Park took outstanding animated program at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys, the awards that honour artistic and technical achievement in television. It was the show’s sixth Emmy Award, according to South Park Studios. After the win, the official South Park X account shared a graphic of President Trump with his pants and underwear around his ankles.
