Hibernian lose to Kilmarnock as David Gray vows to fight on

The result left Hibernian ninth in the table. They have lost four of their past six games in all competitions. That is a sharp slide for a club that expects to challenge near the top end of the league.

Gray spoke after the final whistle. He said he believes in his group of players and in what they are doing. He added he will "continue until someone tells me otherwise" and will keep working to turn the poor run around until someone says something different.

Pressure has been building for weeks. Hibernian lost 3-1 to Hearts in the Edinburgh derby, the meeting of the city's two big clubs, last Thursday night. Gray took responsibility for that defeat. Three days later they lost 2-1 away to St Johnstone, and Gray said he accepted the criticism and was well aware of the noise from supporters, according to Sky Sports.

Before Kilmarnock arrived, Gray had tried to sound calm. He said he was not overly concerned by five straight home league defeats. He called the Kilmarnock game a chance to put that home form right.

There has been one clear bright spot. Hibernian beat Ross County 3-0 to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup, Scotland's second cup competition. County lead League 1, the third tier. That win sets up a semi-final against Hearts, so another derby with a place in the final at stake.

For supporters, this means two different seasons are running at once. Cup nights bring hope and a big derby to look forward to. League nights at Easter Road bring frustration, and a wait for a home win that now stretches back months.
