A forbidden attraction inside a blended family drives Cute, the debut feature from Norwegian director Marlene Emilie Lyngstad, which has released its first trailer ahead of its world premiere.

The Hollywood Reporter unveiled the trailer on 16 September 2026, four days before the film bows on 20 September in the New Directors section at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain. New Directors is the festival sidebar for emerging film-makers. This year’s festival runs from 18 to 26 September.

Jan Gunnar Røise stars as Richard, a man troubled by forbidden feelings for his seven-year-old stepdaughter. Gina Jaqueline co-stars opposite Røise in her feature film debut. Jaqueline is known as a social media influencer and OnlyFans creator. The cast also includes Karin Bertling, Molly Kirk Rasmussen and Kitt Maiken Mortensen.

Lyngstad directed the film from a script written with Emilie Koefoed Larse. The festival lists Lyngstad as born in Oslo in 1997. She is a Nordic Talents winner and her short Norwegian Offspring won La Cinef, the Cannes competition for film-school shorts, in 2023, according to Screen Daily.

Cute is a Denmark-Sweden-Norway production with a run time of 106 minutes, according to the San Sebastian Film Festival. Nordisk Film Production is producing with Film i Väst and Amarcord. Carl Osbæck Adelkild is the producer. Thomas Robsahm, Thomas Heinesen, Kristina Börjeson, Evelina Jacobsson and Johanna Bergenstråhle are credited as co-producers.

The premiere is set for 20 September. San Sebastian’s New Directors line-up holds 14 films this year.

What makes this stand out is the pairing at its centre. A veteran screen actor leads, a first-time actor makes her debut, and a first-time feature director guides a story about a family under strain.
