Charlotte will host the WTA Finals from 2027 on a three-year deal. The women's tour has chosen North Carolina's largest city as the new home for its season-ending championships, BBC. The decision ends months of uncertainty about where the top-eight event goes next.

Matches will be played at the Spectrum Centre, the downtown arena that is home to the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. The Finals gather the best eight singles players and best eight doubles teams of the year, picked on points won across the season. It is the last trophy of the year and it often decides the world No.1. This year's edition comes first, at Indian Wells in California.

As part of the deal, the WTA will move its global headquarters from St Petersburg, Florida to Charlotte. WTA chair Valerie Camillo confirmed the switch alongside the hosting announcement. It ties the tour's offices to its biggest event.

Prize money for the 2026 Finals will be $10 million. That is $5.5 million less than Saudi Arabia put up last year in Riyadh. Riyadh had been due to stage the event this November for a third time, but the arrangement ended one year early after the WTA asked to relocate, Reuters. Charlotte was named as the leading candidate in the spring, well before the final call.

The tour will hope for a longer stay. The Finals have had six hosts in seven years. A planned 10-year run in Shenzhen ended after one edition. Guadalajara, Fort Worth, Cancun and Riyadh have all stepped in since.

There is one early compromise. Charlotte will stage a five-day Finals rather than the usual eight days because Hornets home games fill the arena during the NBA season. That means fewer rest days and little margin for a slow start. Players who find rhythm fast will love it.

For fans, this means clarity. The race to qualify, decided week by week through the autumn, now has a fixed finish line. Eight singles spots. Eight doubles spots. One small field with nowhere to hide. If Charlotte delivers full houses, the long search for a stable home may finally end.
