Cameron's Lightstorm Vision Buys AI 3D Firm Outsyders

James Cameron’s Lightstorm Vision has bought Outsyders, an AI-driven 3D specialist, to speed up how 3D films and live shows reach screens.
Lightstorm Vision announced the acquisition on September 16, 2026, in a press release titled “Lightstorm Vision Acquires Outsyders to Accelerate 3D Content Creation at Scale” Business Wire. The price was not disclosed, according to Deadline.
The stated aim is to accelerate 3D content creation at scale by combining AI-driven 3D technology. The organisation also describes the plan as an end-to-end solution for 3D production, covering the chain from capture to finished pictures for cinemas and headsets, according to Yahoo. For newcomers, post-production is everything that happens after filming, from editing to colour to depth. Outsyders was launched in 2024 by Paul Becker, Jared Sandrew and Chris Harvey, with Becker as chief executive, according to Deadline. Its core product is an AI-driven stereoscopic processing platform for post-production, software used after filming to build depth into images. Stereoscopic means showing slightly different views to each eye to create the sense of depth.
The young company already has mainstream credits. It worked on the Imax 3D version of Blue Angels, the large-screen 3D format, and on Disney’s 3D reimagining of Lilo & Stitch, plus Tron: Ares and Moana, according to Deadline. Lightstorm Vision and Outsyders had already teamed on the Paramount release Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D). Cameron also sits on the board of Stability AI, according to Deadline. The Outsyders deal follows a partnership agreed in late 2024 between Lightstorm Vision, Cameron’s technology venture, and Meta to scale up 3D entertainment for the Meta Quest platform, a system of virtual-reality headsets. For fans, this means attention on the workshop rather than the stage. The appeal of the deal, as described by the companies, is practical craft: cleaner depth, quicker conversion work and one pipeline from set to screen. Cinemas use glasses for 3D, while headsets put the screen close to the eyes, but both need the same careful depth work.
