Magenta Edge Films has acquired Good Sport and will put it into cinemas in the United States on Sept. 20.

The deal, reported by The Hollywood Reporter, gives the basketball comedy a limited theatrical release — a short run in selected cinemas — followed by a digital release on Oct. 13. Digital here means available to rent or buy online.

The film is the second feature from writer and director Andrew Jack Zuckerman, who co-wrote the screenplay with Dillon Orth. It follows Pat, a hungover father coaching his 12-year-old son's basketball team while his ex-wife prepares to remarry.

Sam Landman leads the cast as Pat. He is joined by Mike O'Gorman, Sari Lennick, Virginia Newcomb, Elizabeth Guest, Michelle Hutchison, Darius Jones and Esera Tuaolo, according to the same report.

The release plan starts small and targeted. Magenta Edge will screen the film in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles from Sept. 20, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Three weeks later it moves to digital.

Good Sport arrives with a festival trail behind it. It had its world premiere at Cinequest, then played the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival and the 2025 Dances With Films Festival. Magenta Edge saw it at Dances With Films before making the acquisition. The film also won a narrative feature audience award on the circuit.

Magenta Edge is the specialty arm of Bob Yari's Magenta Light Studios. Specialty means it focuses on smaller, independent films rather than wide studio releases. Yari unveiled the offshoot in early 2026 to acquire and release independent films in theatres and on later platforms.

The acquisition was negotiated by Bill Vergos and C.J. Vranca for Magenta Edge, with Alan Green of One Two Three Media acting for the filmmakers. Vergos is head of digital film distribution for Magenta Light Studios and Magenta Edge Films. One Two Three Media is handling international sales, which covers rights outside the United States.

Producers on the film are Zuckerman, Orth, John Cronin, Lennick and Suresh Cedrick Pereira, with Colby Leopard as associate producer. Executive producers are David Walton, Steven Clark, Michael McHugh, Doug Lennick, Arlene Goodman Alm, Jay Goldberger, Jim Moscowitz, Elias Savada and Landman.

For audiences, this means a brief window to catch it on a big screen. Three cities first. Then wider access at home from October.

The pickup sits alongside wider activity at Magenta Light Studios, which agreed a ten-picture, multi-year production deal with Aanaxion Studio, reported by Deadline. Aanaxion is based in Seoul and Los Angeles.
