David Byrne expands Who Is the Sky? with four bonus tracks
David Byrne has released a digital deluxe edition of Who Is the Sky? with four bonus tracks, led by the single and video “My Madness”.
The expanded version arrived on 16 September, a year after the original album. A digital deluxe edition is an expanded download and streaming version with extra songs added to the standard track list. Rolling Stone reported the release and the new video.
The four additions are “My Madness”, “T Shirt”, “What and Where” and “¿Cuál Es La Razón?”. “My Madness” is listed as the new single from the expanded edition.
Byrne said “My Madness” and “T Shirt” were left off the first version to give the album variety of grooves and subjects, not because they fell short. He called “My Madness” a personal favourite. He described it as a song about the singer picturing their “madness” as a separate being that they come to love, understand and respect.
“T Shirt” is an older song. Byrne said he had added it to his set list, built around images of the statements people wear on their T-shirts.
“¿Cuál Es La Razón?” is a reworking of album song “What Is the Reason for It”. It was created by Mexican Institute of Sound and co-written and sung by Natalia Lafoucade. The original album version featured Hayley Williams.
Who Is the Sky? was released on Matador Records as Byrne’s first new album since 2018’s American Utopia. The deluxe edition extends that record rather than starting a new one.
The release also links to Byrne’s live work. Filmmaker Brady Corbet shot Byrne’s multi-night run at Baltimore’s Hippodrome on 70mm film for an upcoming concert film. 70mm is a large film format known for high detail.
For fans, this means more music alongside more dates. Byrne added a third Philadelphia show on 18 October and a fourth Chicago show on 1 November on the Who Is the Sky? tour. His official site also lists 17 September 2026 in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Byrne has a book next. Sleeping Beauties: Why Good Ideas Go Dormant and How They Wake Up is out on 6 October in North America, according to Matador Records. Book tour dates include 6 October in New York at Riverside Church, 10 October in Toronto at Koerner Hall and 11 October in San Francisco at Sydney Goldstein Theater.
