Kent need 56 runs to beat Lancashire at Canterbury after closing day two on 84-2 in pursuit of 140.
The Rothesay County Championship Division Two match at the St Lawrence Ground is finely balanced with two days left. Kent are chasing a small target on a pitch where runs have been hard to find BBC Sport.
Lancashire made 161 in their first innings, or first turn to bat, and 192 in their second. Kent replied with 214 first time around. That left the visitors defending 139, with Kent’s chase recorded as 140 to win.
Zak Crawley shaped Kent’s lead. He made 84, the highest score of the home side’s first innings. Mitch Stanley kept Lancashire in touch with 4-61.
Michael Jones then top-scored in Lancashire’s second innings with 54. Kent shared the wickets around. Matt Milnes, Khaled Ahmed and Keith Dudgeon took three apiece to keep the target within reach.
Tawanda Muyeye and Sam Northeast saw Kent through to the close. Muyeye was unbeaten on 37 and Northeast was unbeaten on 23 when stumps, the end of the day’s play, was called. Kent are close. Two wickets down means eight still in hand.
Kent had chosen to field first after winning the toss in this four-day fixture, scheduled for 15-18 September 2026. It is Kent Men’s penultimate match of the 2026 Championship season, and the 52nd match of Division Two.
