AMC's Thunder Road Adds Four to Cast Ahead of 2027 Debut

AMC has filled out its pit crew for Thunder Road.

The NASCAR drama has added Josh Macqueen, Aspen Kennedy, Haley Dillon and Mackenzie Porter to the cast ahead of its planned debut on AMC and AMC+ in 2027, Deadline reported in an exclusive published on 16 September.

The series comes from writer John Fusco. It follows the fictional Whitlock family across generations, with their lives tied to stock car racing, the oval-track motorsport overseen in real life by NASCAR.

Dennis Quaid leads as Duane Whitlock, a racing legend known as The Wrecking Ball. The four new additions join previously announced series regulars Chase Stokes, Matt Barr, Maggie Grace and West Duchovny.

Macqueen will guest star, meaning he appears in selected episodes, as Trey Whitlock, the youngest son of Duane. Dillon also guest stars as Dakota Voss, described as the youngest Lead Race Engineer in NASCAR.

Kennedy and Porter will heavily recur, meaning they appear across many episodes without billed as main cast. Kennedy plays Bobby 'Breeze' Roberts, while Porter plays Bonnie Taylor-Whitlock.

Behind the camera, Fusco executive produces alongside Taylor Elmore, who serves as showrunner, the person who leads day-to-day creative decisions. The other executive producers are Cliff Roberts with Syndicate Entertainment, Mark L. Smith, and Tim Clark and John Dahl for NASCAR Studios. The series is produced in association with NASCAR.

Thunder Road was greenlit by AMC Global Media in April, according to AMC. A separate Deadline report in August added Jake Manley to the cast and said production was slated for summer 2026 ahead of the 2027 launch.

For fans, this means the starting grid is now largely set. The Whitlock household has its elder statesman, its younger generation and the engineers and rivals around them, with filming lined up to bring that world to the track.
