Monster Hunter Wilds drops paid edit vouchers for free changes
Monster Hunter Wilds is scrapping its paid makeover tickets. Players will soon be free to change their look without paying again.
Capcom will retire Character Edit Vouchers and pull them from all digital storefronts starting 3 December, according to details reported by Eurogamer. It closes a system that asked players to pay for a fresh look. No new tickets will be sold after that date.
Both Character Edit Vouchers and Palico Edit Vouchers returned in Wilds. The Character ticket covered the player's hunter, from facial features to body shape and other customisation choices made at the start of the game. The Palico ticket covered the Palico, the cat-like companion that fights beside you on hunts and shares the spotlight in camp scenes. Each ticket was a microtransaction, a small optional purchase made on top of the base game. Soon after launch, a fan-made mod on PC already offered unlimited character and Palico edits, as reported by IGN. That mod showed what players wanted: free rein over their look.
Capcom will hand out a final batch before the sale ends. Starting 3 December, every Wilds player will receive 10 Character Edit Vouchers for free. Every player will also receive 10 Palico Edit Vouchers for free. That makes 20 free changes to use as the old system winds down. Players who have been saving a redesign will have room to play.
The same date brings a small gift. Players will be able to claim a Special Thank-You Pendant Set from 3 December. The set includes Heavenly Hog and Beelzeboar pendants, decorative charms that hang from a hunter's weapon and add a personal touch. They do not change damage or defence. They are keepsakes to carry into the hunt.
The full change arrives with Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. Once that expansion launches, all players will be able to re-edit the appearance of their hunter and Palico as many times as they like, free of charge and without a Character Edit Voucher. The unlimited option will be available even to players who do not purchase the Ascendance expansion. No ticket. No fee. Just the editing screen.
There is one exception to the goodwill. Capcom will not refund players who previously paid real money for character edits. Anyone who bought extra vouchers in the past will not get that money back.
For fans, this means freedom to experiment. You can adjust a hairstyle, rebuild a face or give your Palico a new coat pattern, then change your mind the next day. The counting stops. The creativity does not.
