Monster Hunter Wilds Ends Paid Character Edits
Capcom will stop charging Monster Hunter Wilds players to change their character's appearance.
The paid voucher system will go. Character Edit mode will become free with the Version 2 update, which will launch alongside the Ascendance expansion. Video Games Chronicle reports the change will apply to both base game and expansion players.
Monster Hunter Wilds was released in February 2025. Since launch, players have needed a Character Edit Voucher to alter their main hunter after the initial customise, with only one trial edit free.
After that, a three-pack of Character Edit Vouchers costs US$6.99 / £5.79. A combined pack covering both the hunter and the Palico, the small cat-like companion that fights alongside players, costs US$9.99 / £7.99.
That fee is going away. Capcom framed the move as “A goodbye to Character Edit Vouchers” in a post on the official Monster Hunter Facebook page on 16 September 2026. The Version 2 update that removes the requirement will coincide with Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a large paid add-on to the base game, which is scheduled for release in 2027.
There is a transition plan before then. Capcom will keep selling Character Edit Vouchers until 3 December, when they will be delisted, or removed from sale. On that date, existing players will receive 10 free Character Edit Vouchers and 10 free Palico Edit Vouchers.
The timing lines up with a new platform launch. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds is set for release on 4 December. Players starting on Switch 2 will receive 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers when they begin the game.
Capcom is also offering something extra to players who already paid. Anyone who previously bought a three-pack of Character Edit Vouchers, Palico Edit Vouchers or the combined pack will receive a Special Thank-You Pendant Set. It consists of two in-game charms for weapons, a Heavenly Hog pendant and a Beelzeboar pendant.
The system has already had small tweaks. The Version 1.040.00.00 update added a display for the maximum number of Character and Palico Edit Vouchers on the save data selection screen, alongside the number currently owned. That screen lets players check their vouchers before loading a save.
For players, this means no more counting edits or saving a voucher for a favourite look later. The look of a hunter can change as often as the hunt demands.
