Taylor Swift brought her cat and cookies to the Emmys SVU sketch
Taylor Swift brought her real cat to the Emmys stage for a surprise Law & Order: SVU sketch on Sept. 14.
The sketch aired during the 2026 Emmys, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, who stars as Captain Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the long-running American crime drama about detectives who investigate sexually based offences. Swift appeared alongside Hargitay, Ice T and Kelli Giddish, who plays Detective Amanda Rollins, according to Billboard.
The bit poked fun at the online sleuthing done by Swift's fanbase, reported Entertainment Weekly. At one point Swift joked to Hargitay's character that she would probably be sitting at home playing with cats she named after television.
She did not have to pretend. The cat in her arms was Olivia Benson, her own Scottish Fold, confirmed by People. Swift named the cat after Hargitay's SVU character. She owns three cats in total: Olivia Benson, Meredith Grey and Benjamin Button. Meredith Grey is named after Ellen Pompeo's character on Grey's Anatomy, the hospital drama.
Giddish said her one wish for the cameo came true. Her only request was, "Can she be holding her cat?" She told the Women in Entertainment podcast that Swift actually brought Olivia to the shoot, and described filming the skit as "so fun."
Hargitay told Giddish in advance that Swift would take part. Giddish discussed the appearance in a teaser clip for a Women in Entertainment episode set to drop on Sept. 22.
Swift also arrived with food. She brought sourdough brown butter chocolate chip cookies for the SVU cast. The biscuits were homemade, Giddish said in a clip shared by E! News.
What makes this stand out is how long the link goes back. Swift gave her cat the Benson name years before she shared a scene with the actor who inspired it. On Sept. 14, owner, namesake and cat were finally in the same shot.
