Guy Pearce and Andrew Baird Reunite for Irish Thriller Bottle
Guy Pearce will play a violent pub owner who traps an intruder overnight in Bottle, his fourth film with Irish director Andrew Baird, Variety reported on 16 September. The Irish thriller will shoot on location in Ireland from a screenplay by Roberto Forte and Eamonn O'Brien.
Pearce plays Jimmy. He is described as a historically violent pub owner. A troubled young man named Cillian breaks into Jimmy's bar looking for a pint. Jimmy holds him there.
Cillian must then survive the night. He spends those hours trying to work out why Jimmy will not let him leave. The story plays out largely between the two men.
Fabio Golombek and Shannon Alexander of FJ Productions will produce alongside David Collins of Samson Films. Marco Gomez is executive producer. No release date has been announced.
The pairing has history. Pearce and Baird previously worked together on Zone 414, Sunrise and The Marshal. The Marshal, written by Jay Thames and described as a modern conspiracy thriller centred on moral ambiguity and high-stakes action, is set for release in 2027.
Baird told Variety that Bottle looks back to 1970s crime films such as Peter Yates' The Friends of Eddie Coyle. He said it also shares DNA with John Hillcoat's The Proposition, which starred Pearce. That is a lineage clue, not a plot guide.
The announcement follows Pearce's recent turn in Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars alongside Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley and Josh Brolin. That film took $8 million domestically, the United States and Canada, in its opening weekend against a production cost of more than $80 million, according to figures reported by Variety.
What makes this stand out is the pattern. Pearce and Baird keep returning to tight, high-pressure stories with small casts. One bar. One night. Two actors carrying the tension.
