Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance trailer reveals returning Teostra

Teostra is back, and it is bringing fire.
Capcom has confirmed the flame-wreathed elder dragon as a hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance. The reveal came in an extended cut of the game's first official trailer, shown at Tokyo Game Show. Eurogamer reported the details on 17 September 2026.
For newcomers, the premise is simple. In Monster Hunter, players track huge creatures, take them down and use the parts to build stronger weapons and armour. Ascendance is the next chapter in that hunting cycle, built around Wilds.
Teostra is one of the series' elder dragons, the name Monster Hunter gives its most powerful monsters. Capcom lists the creature on the official Ascendance monsters page and calls it the Emperor of Flame for its appearance. It is described as ferocious and wreathed in flame, with breath that brings fiery calamity. Capcom
Long-time players will recognise the fight. Teostra was first introduced in Monster Hunter 2, released in 2006, and later returned in Monster Hunter Rise – Sunbreak. That history makes it a familiar test. Expect charges, choking powder and sudden bursts of fire across the arena.
The new footage also dug into combat. Ascendance adds a Boost Bracer, a wrist device that stores energy as hunters keep up aggressive attacks. Fill the gauge and you can trigger new combinations and enhanced strikes. It rewards staying close and pressing the attack.
Two practical changes should smooth out hunts. Players will be able to swap weapons faster without using a Seikret, the fast, bird-like mount used to ride across the map. They will also be able to change equipment directly from the Item Box, the supply chest, rather than heading back to the tent at camp.
The story got a little more shape too. The extended version, shared online on 16 September 2026, points to a ‘great dragon’ and to ecosystems that are shifting and transforming. Capcom has not spelled out what that means yet.
For fans, this means a classic wall of flame in a new hunt. Teostra has always punished panic and poor preparation. Its early reveal sets the tone for Ascendance: fast, fiery and physical.
