First Freyas winners named ahead of Helsinki debut
Lasse Hallström, Trine Dyrholm and six other screen talents will collect the first-ever Freyas in Helsinki on Sept. 22.
The Freyas, also known as the Nordic Film and TV Awards, revealed its first honourees and winners ahead of the inaugural ceremony, according to Variety. The list spans film and television. It brings Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland into one awards night.
The eight names announced are Hallström, Lena Olin, Dyrholm, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Fares Fares, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Laura Birn and Ebba Katrín Finnsdóttir. Organisers say the event will gather creative talent and industry professionals from all five Nordic countries.
In television, Dyrholm will receive Outstanding Nordic Actor (in a Series) for her role as Ditte Jensen in The Danish Woman. The series is directed by Benedikt Erlingsson. Ólafsson will receive the same category of award for his lead role in Reykjavik Fusion, an Icelandic-Finnish series.
In film, Fares Fares is recognised as Outstanding Nordic Actor (in a Film) for Arkipelag. The film was directed by Alex Schulman, according to Variety.
Hallström is among the most established names on the list. His international breakthrough came with My Life as a Dog in 1985, which earned him two Oscar nominations. Dyrholm won the Silver Bear for best actress at the Berlinale for Vinterberg's The Commune.
What makes this stand out is the scale. The Nordics already share crews, shoots and audiences across borders. Now they have a single night to recognise that work together.
