Nightborn and The Danish Woman lead first Freyas in Helsinki

Hanna Bergholm's horror film Nightborn took best film at the first-ever Freyas, the new awards for Nordic film and television.
The inaugural gala was held on 22 September at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Finland, according to the awards' official site. The Freyas, also known as the Nordic Film and TV Awards, is a new annual celebration of screen work from the region The Freyas.
Nightborn is Bergholm's English-language follow-up to her earlier feature Hatching. It played in competition in Berlin. It stars Seidi Haarla and Rupert Grint, Variety reported.
The win continues a strong festival run. Nightborn won the Cheval Noir Trophy for best film at the 30th Fantasia International Film Festival in 2026. That honour was presented during a 25 July ceremony. In Finland the film is known as Yön Lapsi.
On the television side, The Danish Woman took best Nordic series. Trine Dyrholm also won best Nordic actor in a series for her work on that show.
Two acting prizes in series were presented. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson won the Nordic actor in a series award for Reykjavik Fusion. Fares Fares won the Nordic actor in a film award for Archipelago.
Three special honours rounded out the night. Ebba Katrín Finnsdóttir received the Valkyrie Award for her role in Hildur. Swedish filmmaker Lasse Hallström received the Falcon Award. Swedish actress Lena Olin received the Goddess Award.
What makes this stand out is the slot it is trying to claim. The Nordics already send films and series around the world, from cinemas to streamers. The Freyas puts them in one room, once a year, under one banner.
