Kojima names Bill Skarsgård as Physint lead and says OD is on schedule
Bill Skarsgård will play the lead role in Physint, Hideo Kojima said during Xbox's Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast. The appearance delivered updates on two Kojima Productions games now published by Xbox: Physint and the horror project OD, according to a report published 17 September 2026 Eurogamer.
Physint is described as an "action espionage" game. It had previously been positioned as PlayStation-exclusive before Sony stepped away. Both Physint and OD are now being published by Xbox, which funds and handles release of the games.
Skarsgård joins a cast that already includes three confirmed actors: Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Kojima shared new key art for Physint showing the costume and characters to be played by Fraser and Skarsgård. No story details were attached to the image in the broadcast segment described.
Kojima said OD production is proceeding on schedule. Production paused, then restarted. Performance capture and ADR recording, the recording of actors' movements for digital characters and the re-recording of dialogue after shooting, had to be stopped because of last year's SAG-AFTRA strike.
Two performances for OD are now in place. Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer have delivered performances for the game. Kojima said OD will "test the thresholds of fear", without giving a release date or gameplay outline in the update reported.
Earlier in 2026, Kojima spent time in Richmond, California, with Xbox boss Asha Sharma. He mentioned the visit during the broadcast. Xbox Wire also listed its Tokyo Game Show 2026 coverage, including a roundup titled "Xbox @ Tokyo Game Show 2026: All the Announcements, Including an Appearance by Hideo Kojima" and a separate article on Skarsgård's casting.
A wait remains for the spy project. In 2025, Kojima said Physint would not be out for another "five or six" years. That estimate predates the latest broadcast and the confirmation of Skarsgård in the lead role.
For fans, this means the shape of Kojima's next few years is clearer. One project leans into horror and recorded performance. The other builds an espionage cast around a recognisable screen lead. Both now sit under the same publisher.
