Netflix drops Tyson trailer, sets Oct. 13 premiere with November special to follow
Mike Tyson is getting double billing on Netflix this autumn.
The streamer has released the trailer for Tyson, a four-part docuseries — a documentary told across several episodes — on the former heavyweight champion. It will premiere on Netflix on Oct. 13, according to Variety.
The series is directed by Floyd Russ. Netflix has described the project as an examination of the life of Tyson, the boxer and cultural icon, and billed it as taking “an unflinching look” at boxing, according to Netflix.
A second Tyson project will follow three weeks later. Mike Tyson: Return of the Mike, a one-man show special built around Tyson performing alone on stage, is set to debut on Nov. 3.
That special was directed by Kiki Tyson. It was filmed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
For fans, this means two very different portraits in quick succession. One is archival and interview-driven across four episodes. The other is Tyson in front of a live room.
The two specials extend a run that started with live boxing. Jake Paul and Mike Tyson met at AT&T Stadium in a bout streamed live on Netflix, as reported by Reuters.
Netflix supported that fight with Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson, a three-part behind-the-scenes series on how both fighters prepared, according to Netflix.
