Netflix sets 14 October launch for Hunting Gary Glitter documentary
Netflix has released a trailer for Hunting Gary Glitter and set 14 October for its launch, according to Deadline. The title is a three-part documentary series. That means the story is told across three episodes.
The series is produced by Voltage TV for Netflix. Sam Starbuck and Sanjay Singhal are credited as producers. The credit describes an independent production company making the programme to commission from the streamer, which is how most factual series for subscription services are ordered and delivered.
The series follows journalists and survivors charting Glitter’s conviction, years on the run and eventual incarceration. The pursuit is tracked across Cuba, Cambodia and Vietnam. The account is centred on the investigation and on testimony from those who pursued the case and those directly affected by it.
Glitter is the stage name of Paul Francis Gadd. He was a British pop star in the 1970s, a fact noted when the project was first reported in March 2023 by outlets including Variety. The series does not present that chart career as its subject. It starts there and then follows the criminal cases and the period spent outside Britain that came later.
Netflix first confirmed the documentary in March 2023. That confirmation was reported at the time by several trade outlets. The announcement came more than three years before the trailer and the transmission date now confirmed for October 2026.
In the period since that first announcement, Glitter was reported to have been released from prison after serving half of a 16-year jail term, according to Hotpress. The long gap between commission and release is common in documentary production. Archive research, interviews, legal review and access to contributors can extend the timetable well beyond that for scripted commissions.
For viewers, this means a fixed date. The trailer was published on 16 September 2026. The launch follows less than a month later. The series will be available on Netflix from 14 October, with three episodes covering the conviction, the search across three countries and the outcome in court.
