Debby Ryan reveals life-altering brain injury after years of migraines

Debby Ryan says her life is now split in two: “pre-incident Debby and post-incident Debby.”
The former Disney Channel star said she suffered a life-altering brain injury a few years ago after living with migraines for years, speaking on Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals, according to Variety. She described sustained shaking lasting over a minute of time.
Ryan said the injury followed her fifth concussion and made her migraines significantly worse. She has lived with cluster headaches, a condition that causes repeated bouts of severe head pain, since she was 15, she said in a clip shared by Mythical Kitchen.
The recovery was long. She said she was out of commission for six months and then spent six months in neurological rehab, a programme that helps people rebuild movement, thinking and daily skills after brain injury.
Her symptoms kept worsening for a time. Ryan said what she called a “fringe science treatment” eventually helped get her back online, though some things did not come back.
Many viewers first met Ryan as Bailey Pickett, the role she debuted in The Suite Life on Deck in 2008 alongside Dylan and Cole Sprouse. She went on to front her own Disney Channel series, Jessie, in 2011 opposite Peyton List and Cameron Boyce. That comedy ran for four seasons and 98 episodes between 2011 and 2015.
She shared her account in the September 2026 episode titled ‘Debby Ryan Eats Her Last Meal’, which was published to YouTube on 15 September and also covered by outlets including E! News and People.
For fans who grew up watching her on Disney Channel, this fills in a difficult gap. Ryan did not frame it as a comeback story. She spoke plainly about loss, limits and the work of getting back to daily life.
