Heather McMahan Returns to Hulu With By a Thread on 16 October
Heather McMahan is returning to Hulu with her third stand-up special, By a Thread, on 16 October.
The date was first reported by Deadline on 17 September. Hulu’s own press schedule also lists the special for 16 October, with TV Guide naming it among the streamer’s new arrivals for that day.
The hour was filmed across two sold-out nights at The Bijou Theatre in Knoxville, Tennessee. Two nights, one room. That is how most taped specials are built, giving editors a choice of the strongest takes.
McMahan wrote and performed the show and self-produced it through her own company, Absolutely Not Productions. Jen Zaborowski directed. The executive producers — the senior team overseeing the production — are Maggie Haskins, Christina Tompkins, McMahan and Zaborowski.
By a Thread arrives after McMahan’s national outing, The Bamboozled Tour. It continues a brisk run of taped hours. Her second special, Breadwinner, premiered on Hulu in October 2024.
Before that came Son I Never Had on Netflix. It debuted at No. 4 in October 2023 and stayed in the platform’s top 10 for seven days, according to Deadline’s reporting.
For fans, this means a third hour in three years, and a second in a row for Hulu. The streamer is now her current home for stand-up, after that Netflix bow.
Off stage, McMahan is set to launch her second comedy cruise, Absolutely Knot!, aboard the Norwegian Jewel next May. She is represented by UTA, Artists First and Ziffren Brittenham.
