William and Kate join Bute beach litter pick — by hand and by tractor
The Prince of Wales and the Princess of Wales picked up fishing plastic with their bare hands on a beach on the Isle of Bute on 17 September.

The work was close-up and fiddly. William and Catherine used their bare hands to gather fine plastic filaments left from fishing gear.
“It’s frightening how much stuff gets washed up on beaches, because if it’s like this here, it’s doubly bad out there,” William said, gesturing out to sea.
Then came the heavy lift. William drove a tractor onto the sand with Catherine riding in the cab to collect a large plastic mussel buoy that had washed up.
What makes this stand out is the pairing. Small filaments by hand. A buoy by tractor. Both tell the same story about what the tide brings in.
