Banda El Recodo starts 10th European tour in Rome ahead of 90th anniversary
Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga starts its 10th European tour on Sept. 18 in Rome. The nine-date run closes in Zurich on Oct. 1. The schedule was reported by Billboard.
The route includes stops in Dublin, London, Madrid and Amsterdam. Nine cities. Two weeks.
The visit comes 30 years after the group first crossed the Atlantic in 1995. The band is led by Alfonso ‘Poncho’ Lizárraga, son of founder Don Cruz Lizárraga. Don Cruz died around the time of that first European trip.
The current run also opens a longer countdown. The band’s 90th anniversary is still a little more than a year away. The countdown has started early. The Grammy Museum opened an exhibition on Aug. 5 to begin the anniversary programme, organised around album covers, uniforms and instruments from the group’s career. It remains open to the public until Dec. 31.
The chart record is long. The group are nine-time winners at the Latin Grammys. In the United States, they hold 21 No. 1s on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart, which tracks radio plays for regional Mexican music, most recently with ‘La Cama de Piedra’ in August, as counted by Billboard. They also hold 56 entries on Hot Latin Songs, which combines airplay, sales and streaming, and two entries on the Billboard 200, the main US albums chart.
They began in El Recodo, Sinaloa, as an instrumental wind band playing traditional regional melodies. That lineup developed into the large brass-and-percussion ensemble with vocalists now recognised as banda.
Away from Europe, the band has kept a busy touring schedule. It completed a previous European run in December 2025, according to Yahoo Finance. It had also planned a live album titled ‘En Vivo Desde Japón’ and a US ‘90s Banda Tour’ leg opening May 25 in Newburgh, N.Y., with Banda Machos and Banda Los Recoditos.
What makes this stand out is continuity. Ten European tours over three decades give the band a long touring history outside Mexico. For fans in Europe, this autumn run doubles as a preview of the anniversary year to come.
