Carín León brings Pepe Aguilar and Bronco's Esparza to Sphere return
Carín León was back at the Sphere in Las Vegas on Friday night, Sept. 11, and he did not return alone.
Pepe Aguilar and José Guadalupe Esparza, vocalist of Bronco, joined him on stage as special guests. The show opened the second weekend of León's residency at the venue, according to Billboard.
The engagement is set for seven shows. It began on Sept. 4, and it made León the first Latino artist to headline a concert at the Sphere.
A residency means one artist plays several concerts in the same room, rather than moving from city to city each night. In practice, the production stays in place while the audience changes from show to show.
That room is different from a standard arena. The Sphere in Las Vegas is built for immersive visuals and staging, with imagery built around the music, according to the venue's listing for León. The approach puts pictures around the audience, not only behind the performer.
Friday's concert followed a break in the schedule. León cancelled the show planned for the night before because of airplane issues, Billboard reported. He returned the next night with a full guest bill.
Aguilar sang two songs with León. The pair performed “Lamentablemente” and “Por mujeres como tú” together. A special-guest slot means the visitor joins the headliner for part of the night, rather than playing a separate set.
Esparza sang three with him. The pair performed “Si te vuelves a enamorar,” “Oro” and “Libros tontos” together. Esparza leads Bronco as its vocalist.
León came into the run as an established awards winner. He is a GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winner, according to the Sphere's artist page. The GRAMMY Awards honour music in the United States, while the Latin GRAMMY Awards honour Latin music across the industry.
What makes this stand out is the format. A run of shows in one room leaves space for nights to differ. Five shared songs in one evening did that.
For fans following the run, the point is simple. Each night can bring its own line-up, and Friday brought two familiar voices onto León's stage.
