Symphonic links TransferTrack to MassiveMusic for faster label moves

Symphonic has added direct audio delivery from MassiveMusic to its TransferTrack migration tool, in a collaboration announced on Wednesday, 16 September.

The update means eligible independent labels and artists moving their catalogues to Symphonic can bring audio files and data with them, with fewer manual uploads. Symphonic described the change as removing one of the last hands-on steps for labels switching distributors, according to Music Business Worldwide.

A distributor, in this context, is the company that delivers music to streaming services and collects royalties. Changing that partner used to mean re-uploading tracks and re-entering information release by release. TransferTrack is built to shortcut that process.

The pitch is simple. Clients can start a move by bulk-importing eligible releases into SymphonicMS, Symphonic's management platform, using only a Spotify artist page or release link. The new integration then pulls the matching audio files and metadata from MassiveMusic's catalogue infrastructure.

The audio arrives as FLAC files, a lossless format that preserves full sound quality, alongside standardised metadata. That data is DDEX-compliant, meaning it uses the industry-wide format that labels and services use to exchange release information, and includes ISRC details, the codes that identify individual recordings and link them to streams and payments, Music Business Worldwide reported.

Symphonic first announced TransferTrack, which is patented, in February 2024. The company outlined the MassiveMusic addition in a blog post titled 'Faster Catalog Migration with TransferTrack + MassiveMusic' on 16 September, according to Symphonic.

MassiveMusic also hosts a case page titled 'Symphonic: Seamless Catalogue Transfer' about how its licensed catalogue powers the tool. There, it describes TransferTrack as letting labels switch distributors without re-uploads or lost streams.

MassiveMusic is a business-to-business music and technology company owned by Songtradr. Songtradr acquired MassiveMusic in 2021 and brought its key business-to-business operations together under the MassiveMusic name in June 2025. Its global catalogue was described as 180 million tracks.

What makes this stand out is plumbing, not glamour. Catalogue moves rarely make headlines, but they decide whether stream counts, credits and payments follow the music to its new home. Fewer manual uploads mean fewer chances for errors along the way.
