Nicole Wallace joins Josh Heuston in Amazon MGM's Throttled
Nicole Wallace will play Maya Alatorre opposite Josh Heuston as Noah Slade in Throttled, Amazon MGM's film of Lauren Asher's racing romance, as reported by Deadline. The project adapts the first novel in Asher's Dirty Air series. It has been acquired for streaming, which means it is planned to debut on the studio's streaming service rather than in cinemas.
Maya is an ambitious young woman who joins her brother on the professional racing circuit. There she begins a forbidden romance with Noah, her brother's teammate and on-track rival, according to Deadline. Casting completes the central pair.
Throttled was published in 2020 and opens a four-book sports romance series built around motor racing. Asher is a New York Times bestselling author with more than 5 million books sold worldwide, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The books are well known to romance readers for their mix of family ties and paddock rivalry.
Nzingha Stewart, whose credits include Daisy Jones & the Six, is directing from a script by Melissa Osborne, whose credits include My Fault: London and My Oxford Year. Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions are producing with Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay of Ethea Entertainment and Garrett Grant. Alison Small of Brownstone and Asher serve as executive producers, senior credits that oversee a film creatively and financially.
Wallace already leads Amazon MGM's Spanish-language romantic drama trilogy Culpa mía. She will also star in two upcoming Amazon MGM series, Postcards from Italy, co-produced with Gaumont Italia, and the Spanish drama The House of Spirits. The run makes her a familiar face for the studio's romance audience.
Amazon MGM continues to build its slate of book-to-screen adaptations, which also includes Off Campus, Every Year After and The Love Hypothesis. Gibgot and Panay previously produced the After films and Prime Video's The Last Sunrise, both drawn from Anna Todd novels, and have House of Crowns, a new Todd adaptation, in early development at the studio, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
For fans, this means a favourite pairing takes shape early. Both leads arrive with large streaming followings in romance, and the story stays close to the material readers know. Production details, including a start date, have not yet been announced.
