US workers are booking 19 November off, and GTA 6 may be why
US workers appear to be booking 19 November off to play Grand Theft Auto VI.
Human resources software firm BambooHR says requests for paid time off, or PTO, the holiday leave logged through workplace systems, for that date are running 9-17% above historical averages from recent years. That date is the scheduled launch date for GTA 6 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Sony and Microsoft's current consoles. The finding comes from an analysis of active employees in the United States, shared with GameSpot.
BambooHR said the uplift held steady across its checks. In a memo to GameSpot, the firm said the trend was consistent "at every checkpoint we can measure." It described the pattern as a "real, reproducible signal."
That is careful language, and the company kept the caveat in place. BambooHR said it cannot definitively say GTA 6 is the reason for the rise in requests for 19 November. November leave can move for many reasons, and the data alone does not name a motive.
The timing is still hard to miss. GTA 6 is due to launch on 19 November after a long wait since its predecessor, and it is expected to draw a large day-one audience on console. A 9-17% lift does not mean offices will empty. It means more leave slips than usual are landing on the same Thursday.
What makes this stand out is the method. This is not a poll about intentions or a social media trend. It is leave requests entered into HR systems, counted and compared with prior years. For fans, this means the launch day scramble has started early, not for copies but for calendars.
BambooHR analysed US staff only, so the picture does not cover other countries. It also covers requests, not approvals, and plans can change before November. Still, managers looking at rotas for that week now have a signal to work with.
