"Stop, you'll make me blush."

That was the laughing reply from William, Prince of Wales, after someone in the crowd shouted "You're fit!" during a royal visit to the Isle of Bute in Scotland.

The Prince was visiting with Catherine, Princess of Wales. The trip was billed as a celebration of the island's community spirit and volunteering, the kind of thank-you visit where the couple meet local groups and hear how they keep things running, as reported by Hello! Magazine.

The shout came from among the well-wishers gathered to greet them. William laughed as he answered. Four words. No script. Just a quick, bashful comeback that drew more laughter from the crowd.

It is not the first time he has broken the formality with a joke. In 2023, while posing for a group photograph at Grange Pavilion in Cardiff, he quipped: "Who's pinching my bottom?" That visit marked 75 years since the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush, the ship that brought hundreds of Caribbean migrants to Britain in 1948, an anniversary now widely used to honour the Windrush generation.

What makes this stand out is how relaxed it was. Royal walkabouts follow a tight plan. Police, aides, timings. Then a single shout cuts through it all.

Prince William kept walking, still smiling. The Princess of Wales was beside him for the Bute engagements. The crowd stayed loud.

Moments like this travel fast because they are easy to picture. No speech. No ceremony. Just a prince caught off guard and happy to show it.
