Concrete Studios in Burbank has launched SuperCinema, a new independent studio for cinema films, as reported by Variety.

The Burbank-based organisation says it will produce, market and theatrically distribute its own titles. That means it will finance and shoot films, run the advertising campaign, and book those films into cinemas itself. It plans to sell directly to audiences rather than handing a finished film to a larger studio for release.

An independent studio, in plain industry terms, is one that works outside the major Hollywood studios. It raises its own funds, chooses its own projects, and decides how and when they reach the screen. SuperCinema intends to follow that path from start to finish.

SuperCinema is led by Michael Burke, Rachel Williams, Justin Younesi and Michael Younes. The four run the new operation from Burbank.

SuperCinema is building a campus in Burbank's Media District. The plan calls for three stages for shooting, plus offices and collaborative workspaces where writers, designers and crews can work side by side. Three shooting floors allow more than one production to be housed at once.

The campus will also include an LED volume stage. That is a large curved wall of screens that displays digital scenery behind the actors, so a city street, desert or night sky can be filmed on site without travel. There will be post-production facilities on the campus as well, rooms for editing, sound, colour work and visual effects after the cameras stop.

Two films are already in production. That is a fast start for a new name.

One is Loose Ends, scheduled for release in 2027. The other is The Backlot, described as an action-adventure film from producers Range Media Partners and Artists for Artists, according to Variety.

Concrete Studios arrives with established commercial credits. It has worked as a creative and production partner with Netflix, Disney, Paramount and NBCUniversal.

What makes this stand out is control. Many small producers must search for a distributor to secure a theatre release. SuperCinema wants to keep production, marketing and theatre booking under one roof, and build the rooms to do it in.
