Biola opens 45,463 sq ft Snyder film studio with 277-seat theatre

Biola University has opened a new production home for its Snyder School of Cinema & Media Arts, a three-floor building of 45,463 square feet. It is the school's purpose-built studio facility on the university's campus in La Mirada. The scale puts teaching, making and screening under one roof.
Work on the project started with a groundbreaking on 6 September 2024, according to Biola News. The building was then scheduled to open in August 2026 for the start of the Fall 2026 semester, according to Biola's film studio page. That schedule put just under two years between the first ceremonial shovels and the first week of classes.
The university confirmed the opening in a press release on 22 September 2026. A formal dedication is listed separately for 15 October 2026 on the university events page. The gap is normal for campus projects. Open first for teaching, then gather to mark the moment.
August matters in American universities. The Fall semester is the long autumn term that opens the academic year. New first-year students arrive, returning students settle back in, and new buildings need to be ready before that rush. Hitting an August opening meant the studios could go straight into class timetables.
The key public space inside is a 277-seat theatre, according to Biola News. That is a cinema-sized room, not a lecture hall with a projector wheeled in. Student films can screen there for cast, crew, family and classmates in a single show, with sound and picture set for cinema viewing.
Film training moves in a chain. Writing and planning lead to shooting, then to editing, sound and finishing, then to a screening. Schools prefer to keep that chain close together so students do not lose hours moving across campus. Three floors and more than 45,000 square feet gives Biola room to keep those steps near each other.
What makes this stand out for anyone choosing a film course is timing. Prospective students visiting this autumn will walk through working teaching space. They will sit in the theatre where final projects screen. The choice is no longer about drawings and promised dates.
