Mario Gets New One-Line Logo and Tiny Pockets in Nintendo Refresh

Super Mario now runs across one line. And Mario finally has pockets.
Nintendo has refreshed the branding for its platforming mascot, swapping the stacked Super Mario wordmark for a version that reads straight across in a single line. The change was detailed in a report published on 18 September 2026, alongside a new official render of the character — the approved artwork used on boxes, posters and marketing. GameSpot
The old look had staying power. The stacked logo, with “Super” sitting above “Mario” in thick, rounded letters, had been in use for about 30 years. It appeared across game cases, title screens and merchandise for successive console generations, from home consoles to handhelds and the current Nintendo Switch family.
The new wordmark does not reinvent it. It keeps the same colours and familiar letter shapes, but with slightly less vibrancy and more gradient, giving the letters a softer, shaded finish. The layout is the big shift. Placed on one line, it reads more like a straight banner than a block.
Then there are the pockets. The new Mario render adds tiny pockets to the waist of his overalls, just above the hips where the blue fabric meets his red shirt. They are small and functional-looking, with visible stitching and flaps, rather than painted on.
For fans, this means a lot of small details to spot. Mario’s outfit has stayed remarkably consistent for decades: red cap, blue overalls, white gloves and brown shoes. A tweak to that uniform stands out precisely because so little else has changed.
What makes this stand out is how much conversation such a small update has started. A logo adjustment and two tiny pockets would normally pass unnoticed. Here, both have drawn attention because the character is so widely recognised that even a minor edit becomes news in itself.
