Around 192GB of Grand Theft Auto V source code is now widely accessible, and people searching through it say it reveals a cancelled Liberty City expansion that never reached players.

The files are the raw building blocks developers use to assemble a game. In this case they run to about 192GB, close to 200GB in total, according to Eurogamer. That material points to early work on bringing Liberty City, the New York-inspired setting of 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV, into GTA 5 as downloadable content, extra story material sold after launch. The plans were started and then scrapped.

The leak does not stop there. It also holds very early files linked to Grand Theft Auto VI, including a rough version of that game's map. It reportedly includes cut dialogue, scrapped missions and unused assets left out of GTA 5.

Some files are said to relate to Agent Trevor, a long-rumoured story add-on for GTA 5's volatile co-lead Trevor Philips. The extent of that material in this latest release is not yet clear.

Trevor actor Steven Ogg has said he shot some material for a planned Trevor DLC in which Trevor goes undercover for the government in a James Bond-style story. Former Rockstar senior camera artist Joseph Rubino has said the add-on was dropped because GTA Online, the live-service game sold alongside GTA 5 and updated in seasons after launch, earned so much money that a standalone story release was hard to justify.

This cache is not entirely new. The near-200GB set of source code first leaked in 2023 before becoming widely accessible now, as reported by IGN.

Working through a haul this large takes time. File names, scripts and map fragments must be checked against the finished game, so a fuller picture will build slowly as more people dig through the folders. Early findings can also be incomplete or misread before that checking is done.

What makes this stand out is the scale. It is rare to see this much working material from a game of this size in one place. For players, it offers a look at paths Rockstar considered and left behind, from a second city to a spy story for Trevor.
