Former PlayStation bosses restage PS4 disc-sharing joke without the disc
Former PlayStation executives Shuhei Yoshida and Adam Boyes have recreated their famous PlayStation 4 game-sharing joke at Tokyo Game Show 2026. No disc this time. The pair copied the old pose with empty hands, 13 years after the original clip became a fan favourite.
Yoshida shared a photo of the reunion with the caption 'Met with a best friend' Eurogamer. The image was reported on 18 September 2026 during Tokyo Game Show 2026, Japan's annual games showcase in Chiba. Both men have since left Sony, but they remain closely linked with the PlayStation 4 era.
For anyone who missed it the first time, the joke is simple. The original 'Used Game Instructional Video' showed Yoshida handing Boyes a physical copy of Killzone: Shadow Fall, a science-fiction shooter released for the PS4, to explain how to share games on the console Eurogamer. That was the whole instruction. Hand over the disc. Play it.
The new photo follows the same set-up, except neither man is holding anything. Yoshida extends an empty hand. Boyes reaches out to take what is not there. The recreation was noted by several outlets covering the show Push Square.
The original clip has collected 21 million views over 13 years Eurogamer. It ran for less than half a minute and needed no narration. That brevity helped it travel well beyond regular players.
What makes this stand out is how little needed changing.
