Jones hits last-ball four as Blaze beat Hampshire to seal treble
Emma Jones pulled the last ball to the boundary to win the One-Day Cup final for The Blaze. Chasing 252 to beat Hampshire, they got home with no balls to spare. The win sealed a treble, after victories in the T20 Blast and County Cup earlier in the season, BBC Sport.
The final was played on 19 September at the Utilita Bowl, Hampshire's home ground near Southampton. Hampshire were in their second successive final, after losing the 2025 showpiece to Lancashire. This time they came up short again.
The Blaze made a steady start to their chase, which in cricket means batting second to pass the target set by the other team. Tammy Beaumont led the way with 74. Georgia Elwiss added 64 beside her, and for a long stretch the chase looked under control.
Then it wobbled. Hampshire fought back through spin and seam, with Amanda-Jade Wellington taking 3-36 and Bex Tyson taking 2-46. The Blaze lost four wickets for 29 runs. Suddenly they needed 30 from the final three overs, or 18 balls.
Jones held her nerve. She finished on 34 not out from 25 balls, which means she was still batting at the end. With two runs needed from the last delivery, bowled by Daisy Gibb, she pulled it away to the rope for four. A boundary is worth four runs, so the match was won in one shot.
What makes this stand out is how quickly the mood swung. One comfortable chase became a tight finish, then a last-ball win. For fans, this means The Blaze end the season with all three trophies, while Hampshire must wait another year after back-to-back final defeats.
