Ride or Die Cancelled at Prime Video, Shopped Elsewhere

Ride or Die will not return for a second season on Prime Video.

Deadline reported the decision as an exclusive on 19 September, saying the streamer had opted not to renew, meaning it will not commission more episodes Deadline. Paramount Television Studios, which produces the series, is now shopping it, meaning it is offering a potential second season to other buyers. No new home has been announced.

The series was created by Tessa Coates and stars Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham. Spencer plays Debbie Claybourne and Waddingham plays Judith Burton, best friends at the centre of the story, according to the Amazon MGM Studios press site.

The show is an action comedy about an elite assassin and her civilian best friend, as described by The Hollywood Reporter. That pairing drives the eight-episode first season. The tone is loud and physical, built around loyalty tested by lawlessness.

The road to screen was a long one. Prime Video first ordered an eight-episode untitled series for Spencer and Waddingham in December 2023, according to the Amazon MGM Studios press site. The project later became Ride or Die.

Prime Video set 15 July as the release date in an announcement in May Deadline. The first trailer followed in June Variety. The series then launched on 15 July 2026 as an Original Series, meaning a show commissioned as an exclusive for the platform.

For viewers, this means a short pause. Season one is the complete run on Prime Video for now. A second season can only happen if another buyer steps in.

That search is now under way. Shopping a cancelled show is common practice, especially when a series has recognisable leads and a studio ready to keep production going. It does not guarantee a pickup.

No reason for the decision has been confirmed. No cast or creative changes linked to a possible move have been announced.
