Prime Video Cancels 'Ride or Die' After One Season

Prime Video has cancelled ‘Ride or Die’ after one season.

According to Variety, which reported the decision on 20 September, the story ends with its first eight episodes. No second season will be made.

All eight episodes premiered on 15 July on Prime Video. Prime Video had announced that date in May. Viewers could watch the whole season at once. Amazon MGM Studios lists ‘Ride or Die’ as a Prime Video original series, meaning it was commissioned to launch on that service.

The series starred Octavia Spencer as Debbie Claybourne and Hannah Waddingham as Judith Burton. Debbie and Judith are best friends. Variety described the show as an action dramedy, which blends action with comedy and drama.

The series was created by Tessa Coates. In television, the creator originates the series idea and shapes its voice. Production came from Paramount Television Studios, Amazon MGM Studios, Double Dream and Orit Entertainment.

The ensemble around the two leads was large. It included Ed Skrein, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, Jacky Ido, Sylvia Hoeks and Bill Nighy. Each was credited as part of the season-one cast.

The road to the screen was long. The pairing of Spencer and Waddingham was first reported in December 2023. At that point the project had no title. Prime Video said then that it had landed the untitled series. More than two and a half years later, it arrived as ‘Ride or Die’.

Prime Video set out the launch in stages. It confirmed the untitled Spencer-Waddingham project with a press announcement in December 2023. It followed that with a second press release in May 2026, carried on the Amazon MGM Studios press site, to confirm the final title and the 15 July premiere date. The show’s page on the same press site presents it as a Prime Video original series.

The launch also drew trade-press coverage. Variety published a television review on 15 July. That review was written by Aramide Tinubu.

The gap between premiere and cancellation was a little over two months. For fans, this is the end of the line. Eight episodes tell the full story. The September decision closes the series after a single season, with no return for Debbie and Judith.
