Ruby Rose has called Hayden Panettiere her best friend, saying the two spoke every day for five years.

Rose described the friendship in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Variety reported. Panettiere died on Aug. 16 at age 36.

Her family confirmed her death. Panettiere was known to many viewers as a star of the television series Heroes and Nashville, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office said Panettiere was found in cardiac arrest before her death, ABC News reported.

Rose said she did not expect the two to become friends. She said she was unsure about wanting celebrity friends because she had not had a great experience with the industry.

Then Panettiere approached her. Rose recalled her saying, "Hey, I'm Hayden. Can we go talk somewhere? We've got a lot in common."

Rose said they quickly became close after realising how much they shared. She said they had everything in common.

The conversation took place with Entertainment Tonight's Denny Directo at a season premiere, according to Entertainment Tonight via Facebook. Rose became emotional while remembering Panettiere during the interview, People reported.

Rose also said Panettiere wanted her story told her way, on her terms.
