Helen Mirren to open SCAD Savannah Film Festival with 'A Talent for Murder'
Helen Mirren will open the 29th SCAD Savannah Film Festival with her new thriller A Talent for Murder, collecting the festival's Legend of Entertainment Award on the same night.
The festival will kick off on Saturday, Oct. 24 with the opening-night screening, as reported by Variety on Sept. 21. Mirren will accept the honour in person. She will then take part in a moderated question-and-answer session after the film.
The film comes from director Anton Corbijn. It is distributed by Bleecker Street and LD Entertainment, the companies handling its release to cinemas. Mirren stars as a renowned author. That author is crime writer Patricia Highsmith, according to Yahoo. Alden Ehrenreich co-stars as a young man sent to Switzerland.
An opening-night slot is a festival's shop window. It is the first film shown, usually with its stars in the room, and it sets the tone for the days that follow. In Savannah, that night pairs the premiere with the award presentation.
