Princess Charlene Brings Garden Print to Monaco's Family Picnic
Princess Charlene packed two very different looks into two Monaco nights, finishing with a botanical-print midi dress at a family picnic.
Prince Albert, Princess Charlene, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella attended U Cavagnëtu together. It is the traditional community picnic organized each year by Monaco's town hall. The event dates to 1931, and its name means "picnic basket" in Monegasque, the local dialect.
Charlene wore a flowy midi dress in Erdem's Cabinet of Curiosity print from the label's pre-Spring 2026 collection, according to Town & Country. Marie Claire identified the exact style as the Printed Flutter-Sleeves Midi Dress in Cabinet of Curiosity Ivory, which originally retailed for $1,895.
The print has old roots. It was inspired by the 17th-century work of Maria Sibylla Merian, the German entomologist — a scientist who studies insects — and botanical illustrator known for detailed drawings of plants and insects.
American royal watchers will recognize the designer. Catherine, Princess of Wales, wore an Erdem floral print to the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019. Gabriella matched the garden mood in her own way, wearing a pale pink dress with sheer flutter sleeves.
The picnic came after a formal night out. The evening before, Albert and Charlene attended the 20th anniversary gala for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. The dinner was held at the Salle Garnier of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the historic opera house in Monte Carlo.
The foundation works on climate change, biodiversity and water resources. It has supported more than 830 projects worldwide.
For the gala, Charlene chose a floor-length black gown by Jenny Packham, a British label worn repeatedly by the Princess of Wales. The gown had a sheer beaded neckline that extended across the shoulders in a cape-like layer, with fringe detailing. She paired it with diamond drop earrings and a black clutch.
What makes this stand out is the contrast. One night was full-length gown and opera house lights. The next was loose sleeves and a town picnic. Both nights put the family of four in the same frame.
