Huddersfield Giants sign Will Tate from Wakefield on two-year deal

Huddersfield Giants have signed Will Tate from Wakefield Trinity on a two-year deal, BBC Sport reported on 21 September 2026.

The 24-year-old plays at centre or on the wing. Those are the wide attacking positions in rugby league, the 13-a-side code, where pace and finishing decide tight games. He moves between Super League clubs, with Super League the top flight of the British game.

Tate made 10 appearances for Wakefield this season and scored seven tries. A try is worth four points and remains the main currency in league. Seven in 10 is a strong strike rate. It explains the interest.

He did not arrive from nowhere. Tate had already played 16 times for Hull KR and 15 times for Castleford in Super League before joining Wakefield. Trinity announced his arrival last October on a one-year deal, when he was listed as 23, according to Wakefield Trinity. Wakefield’s 2026 season preview on the Super League website then listed Castleford as his previous club.

Centre and wing ask for different strengths. Centres take hard carries and make defensive reads in the middle of the line. Wingers work in narrow space near the touchline and must finish under pressure. A player who can do both gives a coach options. One squad place can cover two jobs.

For fans, this means depth with points in it. Huddersfield get a young outside back who has already shown he can cross the line at this level. Tate gets security and a fresh start. Two years is time to settle and push for a regular shirt.

Nothing is guaranteed. Places in the back line are earned each week. But form travels fast in league, and seven tries in 10 games travels loudly. Huddersfield will hope that finishing carries straight over in Giants colours.
